Today’s show is a part 2 (of sorts) to my Three Year Anniversary, in which I covered Queen and Country: The Definitive Edition Volumes 1 and 2. This time around the series comes to a conclusion with Volumes 3 and 4. The latter being a collected edition of the Q & C Declassified comics that were flashback stories and featured characters before they came in contact with the main protagonist Tara Chase. Lots of great extras were included in these (wonderfully sized) 6 x 9 softcovers and we cover it all in detail.

Also on this week, two monthly series have been cancelled: Marvels’ Captain Britain and MI:13 and Images’ Madman Atomic Comics. We take a look at past and, more importantly, future collected editions of these runs that ended way too soon.

It’s been a while since I covered any new Batman collected editions and when I say new I mean original material that has come out in the past five years. That changes today when I discuss not one, but two recent books: Death and the Maidens TP (2004) and Batman and Son HC (2007). The common theme that runs through both is that of villain Ra’s al Ghul. Both books call upon Batman’s past and his future, whatever that may turn out to be.

There’s a lack of news on this week’s, but I make up for it by running down a few upcoming books from DC and Marvel that may be worth your investment. I also follow-up last weeks Annihilation Classic show and tell you about what may be the real first appearance of Rocket Raccoon.

This week on the show I tell you all about my adventures at Wizard World Chicago 2008. Including the people I met, the Comics Podcasting Panel and all of the collected editions that bought at unbelievable discounts – Legion of Monsters HC (Marvel), Essential Horror Volume 1 (Marvel), Stoker’s Dracula (Marvel), Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness (Marvel and Dynamite), Marvel Masterworks: Atlas Era – Tales of Suspense Volume 2 (Marvel) and Ex Machina Deluxe Edition HC (DC). In just a few days I’ve managed to read most of them.

Also, there is news that the Absolute Black Dossier will not include the 45 rpm song by Alan Moore. Wasn’t that the whole point of this edition? As much as I will probably pick it up, I’m over this whole soap opera.

Collected Comics Library Podcast #171

Sometimes I can get real ornery, but it takes a lot to get me that way. This week Marvel puts me in a mood. It has to do with their shipping schedule and the changes that have been made. Not only that, but as I run down the New Releases of the Week, some other questions arise from other companies, as to just what the heck is going on with content and price per page.

I calm down later on in the show with Greg Rucka’s early work Whiteout. I cover both Definitive Editions from Oni Press, which were published last summer.
