CCL Podcast #79 – Back from SD

Collected Comics Library Podcast #79

I really had a lot of fun, but I’m glad it only comes around once a year. Any more than that I’m not sure I could take it.
Today’s show has no real format. I go over what I did, who I saw and things that I experienced at the Con and I go over the Comics Podcasting Panel. I also run down the New Releases of the Week and I have a neat little audio clip that I think you’ll enjoy.

CCL Podcast #78 – Short, Sweet and Solicitations

Collected Comics Library Podcast #78
21,982Kb; 18m 45s

Although it’s my shortest show in a long while, it’s jam packed with information. Including the newly announced EC Archives, an awesome special contest from Atomic Comics, friend of the show David Price, from the Comic Timing podcast, writes in a Wolverine question that I need your help on and finally the solicitations from Marvel (October) and DC (November).
As I said on the podcast, while in San Diego I hope to get a few things done. First is that I hope to post information on the blog as it comes available. Second is to garner a few interviews and third is to do a show from the either the Hotel or the Convention floor. I don’t want to miss a beat with the podcast.
Best,

Chris

EC Comics and Marvel Omnibus site updates

Hey gang, I finally got around to adding a page for Jack Kirby’s Eternals Omnibus and with that I’ve added the highly anticipated Grant Morrison’s New X-Men Omnibus which will collect New X-Men #114-154 and Annual 2001. This book will be 992 pages (the biggest book Marvel has ever published) and will be released in December. Please note, this is just the basic information that has been given out, so there’s not much there.
I’ve also added a new section for the newly announced EC Archives. Again, not much info, but I do have cover art for two of the books.
Just browse down the left-hand side for those and more books.

I hope to get more information on all these books at the San Diego Comic Con next week.

Tom Brevoort on Fanboy Radio

Hey everyone, my friend and fellow SDCC panelist, Scott Hinze of Fanboy Radio wanted me to let you know that he’ll be interviewing Executive Editor of Marvel Comics, Tom Brevoort this Sunday, July 13 at 6pm Central (7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific). I’m sure Tom will be discussing what Marvel is up to at this years San Diego Comic-Con. I even passed Scott a few Marvel Masterworks and collected editions questions; let’s hope they get answered.

EC Archives Announced!!!

Well, the official press release is finally here!
Russ Cochran has announced the brand new editions of the EC Library in full color. “Weird Science Volume One kicks off the series in October with a 212-page hardcover volume collecting the first six issues of the legendary Sci-Fi comics series”! “Star Wars” creator George Lucas will write the introduction for the first volume and Steven Spielberg writing for the second volume, Shock Superstores Volume One will be released in November 2006 and then you can expect Tales from the Crypt Volume One in December 2006 and Two-Fisted Tales Volume One in January 2007, with additional volumes to follow throughout 2007! All volumes are priced at $49.95 and will be available at bookstores and comic book specialty stores. This is truly great news and something that us serious fans of collected editions have been waiting for some time.
Mr. Cochran, himself sent out this letter to the fans of EC Comics,

The first of these books will be out in October with a Foreword by George Lucas, who is an EC fan. The second will be in November with a Foreword from Steven Spielberg, another EC fan. Every attempt has been made to make these new reprints “perfect”. These are high-quality hardcovers, full color, shot from the EC original art with great clarity, and all the inside color has been re-worked and improved. In the original EC comics, because of the primitive way the color separations had to be made, there was only a small number of combinations possible, leading to a limited palette for the finished product. Using modern computer coloring technology, with an infinite range of colors available to the colorist, at last the color does justice to the quality of the artwork and the stories, while still following the spirit of Marie Severin’s colorings.

I think The EC Archives will be the best EC project I have ever done, and probably the last. I invite you to take me up on the great pre publication offer in the mailing and see for yourself. And, finally, don’t worry about the usual “Russ Cochran delays”. These books will be published as scheduled!

Long Live EC!
Russ
