Marvel Has No Love For “Bromance”

Every Wednesday afternoon Diamond updates any Product and Shipping changes that companies may have. I check the list and make any updates to the CCL Shipping Schedule and I have on occasion listed multiple significant changes on the blog. This past Wednesday Marvel made a discreet title change to the Marvel Bromance Trade Paperback; it is now titled Marvel Super Hero Team-Up TPB .

My question is a simple: Why?

Let me try to venture an explanation. Marvel realized that the term Bromance is the complicated love and affection shared by two straight malesUrban Dictionary. That may be a little too gay for a company like Marvel. The trade, itself, is comprised up team-up stories of male superheroes, but I call it more of a friendship and not love and affection or even homosexuality.

When the solicitation first came out I was taken aback by it and I had to wonder who exactly approved the title and just what were they thinking? But now I wonder about the timing of the title change. It came down after Comic Con, when Joe Quesada and the other Editors knew the change was coming. I’m certain they didn’t want a PR fiasco nor did they want some over zealous Fan-Boy asking all sorts of juvenile related questions.

In the comic book world, we all know about the Batman and Robin references and jokes. All I’m saying is that a little bit of research can go along way. I have this book pre-ordered and I still intend on getting it. I’m sure it will be a good read regardless of the title.

Next time, Marvel, try not to be so cool, or you’re bound to end up with the Reed and Sue Plus 8 Omnibus.

Marvel Super Hero Team-Up TPB Collects Marvel Team-Up #121, Captain America #126, Avengers Two: Wonder Man & The Beast #1, Power Man And Iron Fist #79, Classic X-Men #4, Marvel Spotlight #30, Cable & Deadpool #19, Iron Man #216, Black Panther #25, Tales Of Suspense #78, Marvel Fanfare #15 and Uncanny X-Men #183, $24.99, due September 9, 2009.
