Here’s the complete list of what I was able to gather up that was either announced or seen at Comic Con this past weekend. I’m sure the list will expand as more news trickles out. Don’t forget this is a follow up to what we already know, Pre-Comic Con, that I blogged about last week. I’ll be talking about all of these books (including contents, price and dates) and the Eisner Winners on the next podcast due out Wednesday.

Chris, I realize a lot of these are just announcements and are all subject to change. But that Captain America Lives Omnibus – I can’t imagine that would be priced at $19.99. Even if it collects just parts of some of the issues listed, it will at least have to rerpint 7-10 complete issues to flesh out the storyline. I didn’t even think Marvel could put $19.99 in the same sentence as the word Omnibus.
As always, thank you so much for the work you put into this project. I gave myself a splitting headache yesterday trying to find some announcements. Plenty of movie and TV announcements, it seems, but the comic announcements seemed a little sparse….
Thanks, Jerry, A bit of a copy/paste issue. Fixed now. I’m sure the Omnibus will be $75 or so.
That Floyd Gottfredson collection sounds so amazing. I cannot wait!!
I find it amazing that Marvel is mining so much quarter bin material and turning it into hardcovers and (G*D Forbid!) Omnibuses!! All that Atlantis Attacks materials can regularly be found in quarter to dollar bins. And Thor Worldengine was already collected in a small trade (I have it) but the issues are cheapos as well. They did the same with the Hercules Prince of Power and Power Pack stuff. For a time I was seeing that stuff constantly while going through cheap bins at shows and conventions. I usually like my stuff in collected editions as well, so I can have it up on the shelf, easy to read at any time, but being the thrifty shopper I am, I want to read the story and if I can do it for pennies rather than dollars, I’ll do so. Also, much of that stuff is in cheap bins for a reason!
I agree that the public would be better served if the Premier Classic Library was published in Softcover rather the Hardcover. Like you pointed out, many of them already are! In addition to lowering the price the Marvel Collected Editions Department wouldn’t have to complete (or just compete less) with the quarter bin market. It good that this material is seeing the light of day, but some of this is a bit silly.
I’m also thrilled about the Fantagraphics Gottfrefson reprints, the first time I became aware of how god those strips are was through one of the Editions of the “Smithsonian Book of Comic Strips” at my University Library.
I think Gladstone reprinted some Volumes of it in the early 90′s and there’s another collection called “Mickey Mouse in COLOR”
I hope others are as excited as you and I. It’s such a niche market. I feel that all of us have an obligation of promotion to help the publisher when we buy their books.
