It’s been a slow time these past few weeks as far as collected editions go. Not much news or even rumors to go around. Even looking at the recent solicitations it seems as though DC and Marvel have scaled back a little, but their prices have gone up; which is what I’ll be discussing on the next podcast. For now, enjoy the following links from the past week and a little bit beyond.
- Anime Detroit, Michigan’s anime convention and Japanese culture festival, will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel located at 5500 Crooks Road in Troy on October 2-4, 2009. More information can be found at www.AnimeDetroit.org. I won’t be there, but it sounds like a good time. If you go, drop me line and tell me about it.
- Timothy Callahan, Staff Writer CBR, When Words Collide got a copy of the Absolute V for Vendetta. I need to get a copy myself. Perhaps I can persuade Tim to come on the show and we can talk about it.
- Official Press Release – Radical Collects The Critically Acclaimed “Hotwire”.
- Official Press Release – IDW Brings The Art Of Ditko Retrospective in November.
- Official Press Release – IDW Announces Family Circus Collection.
- Media Release – Archie Comics And Dark Horse Join Forces On Archive Edition.
- Joe, at FPI Blog, has the list of both Igntaz award winners and the Joe Shuster award winners.
- Rich Johnston, Bleeding Cool, posts his Foreword To SuperFogeys by Brock Heasley. Very cool of him to do so. I think more publishers should allow this, it makes for good marketing.
- Steven Thompson, Booksteve’s Library (a new favorite blog of mine) has a look at the history (and reprints) of Dracula, a Spanish horror magazine. I found one of the Warren reprints on eBay selling for $99.99.
- John Hogan, Graphic Novel Reporter, on Banned Books Week: A Comics Perspective. Shame on me, I’ve never read Craig Thompson’s Blankets. In another post John also gives out recommendations for Wasteland, Logicomix and The Vietnam War: A Graphic History. I never heard of Logicomix by Bertrand Russell, I’ll have to pick it when it comes out in a few weeks.
- All the details on Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut DVD due out in November.
- ICv2 Interview: Berkeley Breathed On Bloom County, the Future of Strips and More.
- Review: Danielle Leigh, Danielle’s Reading Diary, CBR on Detroit Metal City Vol 2.

Good news on the Archie reprints. I’d been wondering for a while where I could read up on Archie’s beginnings, and it didn’t seem there were any collections out there. With Dark Horse behind the wheel now, both quality and timeliness of new collections would seem to be a given.
