It’s that time of year again! Time to pick a character or creator to immerse yourself in for 2012.
This is one of my favorite shows of the year because it forces me to read material I probably would have skipped or let the dust collect on my books. For 2012 I’m choosing Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. due in large part of the upcoming Avengers movie starring Samuel L. Jackson. I also haven’t read much S.H.I.E.L.D. over the years except for the two Jim Sterenko trade paperbacks, the Essential Godzilla and whatever comics Nick Fury pops up in. I’ll have several books to keep me occupied including the three Nick Fury Masterworks (I’m forgoing the Howling Commandos run), the recent Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D Premiere Hardcover and the upcoming Wolverine & Nick Fury: Scorpio trade paperback.
For fun let’s recap what I adopted the past few years:
Rob,
Nothing concrete but I remember that I gave my thoughts throughout the year on my podcasts.
Here s quick summary:
2007: Thor – The art by Kirby is solid and a lot of what Simonson did was based off the original run.
2008: Luke Cage and Iron Fist – Great ’70s comics. Full of action and guest stars.
2009: The Spirit Archives Volumes 1-27 – Yes, all 27 (including the Dark Horse Archive) is a must for your bucket list.
2010: Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man – Again, a must read and must own.
2011: Golden Age Superman and Silver Age X-Men. GA Superman was hard to get through as was the original X-Men. I stopped early and hope to get back to it someday.
Do you have any summary posts with your thoughts on the characters you adopted in years past? I’d love to see your thoughts on 2011
