Collected Comics Library Podcast #343

Today’s show is a request of sorts. A few weeks ago I picked apart the Marvel Premiere Classic line of books. Today, I do the same with the DC Classic Library. The short-lived series was quite popular in 2009-2010, but only published nine volumes (ten if you count the never published Shazam!: The Monster Society Of Evil). The series didn’t get off to a very good start and a few of the books that were published were questionable. Their demise was due in part to the title choices but mostly because of the very high price point, usually $40. That’s not so say that there are one or two standouts that every comic book fan should read.
The big news of the week was that of Karen Berger retiring from DC and Vertigo. I examine this and wonder the timing of her stepping down, the cancellation of Hellbalzer at #300 and what could be next for the Vertigo line – if anything.
I also go over news snippets of:
- Terry and Pirates the George Wunder Years: Volume 1 1946-1948 (Hermes Press)
- IDW Limited Transformers Volume 1
- Heroic Tales – The Bill Everett Archives Volume 2; Blake Bell’s call out
- JLA: Zatanna’s Search
