Comic Book Blog browsing on a Tuesday evening
I’m off to the all important monthly Detroit Podcasters Network meet-up tonight. Where we’ll ponder the question,”What beers do you have on tap”? In all seriousness, the gatherings are a lot of fun and very much laid back. If you are anywhere near Detroit on the final Tuesday of any month come on by and hang out. Just check our official website to see where we’ll be. Good times and better company. On with today’s links:
- The guys at the Collected Editions blog get serious. DC Hardcovers are the topic at hand and they are fed up. And be sure to bookmark their site, new reviews are being posted all the time.
- Go Read: John Mayo, Comic Book Resources and Comic Book Page Podcast, on Sales Estimates For December, 2007 Books
- If you think that DC and Marvel are the only ones making giant collected editions get ready for the Manga version. Kevin Melrose, Blog@Newsarama, delves into the upcoming segment.
- Go Vote: Tom Brevoort and The Golden Loebs! Sounds like a Holiday Inn band. Don’t forget to tip your waitress.
- Sometimes things just go right and it makes you smile. Bob Greenberger reports that the new Chuck Dixon and Rick Burchett web comic Heroes Happen Here has launched. I’m not into web comics at all, but I’ll be reading this one everyday.
- Review: Michael May, Blog@Newsarama, on Astronaut Dad, Volume 1. I really have to pick up this book.
CCL Podcast #148 - Starman Companion (Redux)

It’s been a very slow news week mostly due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Even so, all the buzz has been about the newly announced six volume Starman Omnibus. You may recall I did a feature on Starman and his creator, Jack Burnley last January for episode #102. Today, I replay part of that feature and add new information to make it more current with the Omnibus announcement.
I also have some news regarding Valiant and the X-O Manowar Hardcover and just how that book may be distributed.
Other then that, I have details to the 4th Annual NCAA Football Bowl Contest. Full details will be available on Monday morning, but for now you can get a sneak peak at the prizes.
Lastly, I have a new Question of the Month and go over an extensive New Releases of the Week.

Whether you call him Rahz or Raish, Ra’s al Ghul is one of the most evil and coolest villains in all of comicdom. And now he’s back, in full force, in the Batman rouges gallery. This week the CCL takes a look at not only one of the best Batman collected editions, but one of the best that feature a villain as the protagonist “Tales of the Demon” – both the 1991 and 2005 versions.
I also go over the news that involves Marvel, Image, Daredevil and the upcoming DVD-ROM collections - Civil War, House of M and EC anyone?
I have new Question of the Month - Thanksgiving style don’t forget that you can find me every Monday on Around Comics and every month with John Mayo.

First up I want to thank everyone who nominated me for a Podcast Award. I’ll have more news on that on this Blog later in the week. I also hoped all of you had a chance to download and listen to the latest CCL Comic Book Page May 2007 Stats Podcast. Comments are always welcome!
On today’s show I go over a small bit of news from Image, Dynamic Forces and the CrossGen/Checker Book Collected Edition Reprint Team-Up. It’s nice to see those finally getting published.
The CCL interior website has two new Checklists for you to download: The EC Archives and The Dark Horse Archives. I also hope to have all the individual pages for the DC Archives, Marvel Masterworks, Showcases, Essentials and everything else all updated by the end of the week And don’t forget to check out the Release Schedule; it’s all updated with the latest solicitations from DC, Marvel, Dark Horse and others.
For the feature today, I cover Jack Kirby’s Fourth World Epic, but not in the usual way. I do go over the Omnibus editions a bit, but really it’s a rundown of the monthly and collected edition publication history for all the Fourth World related titles from 1971-2005!
Time to enter the Boom Tube! Hop on in!
