It’s been a while since I covered any new Batman collected editions and when I say new I mean original material that has come out in the past five years. That changes today when I discuss not one, but two recent books: Death and the Maidens TP (2004) and Batman and Son HC (2007). The common theme that runs through both is that of villain Ra’s al Ghul. Both books call upon Batman’s past and his future, whatever that may turn out to be.

There’s a lack of news on this week’s, but I make up for it by running down a few upcoming books from DC and Marvel that may be worth your investment. I also follow-up last weeks Annihilation Classic show and tell you about what may be the real first appearance of Rocket Raccoon.

All this including the Product and Shipping Updates and the New Releases of the Week.

DC does Absolute Light Watchmen

April 10, 2008
By

Here is the Press Release

DC Comics is producing a new hardcover edition of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen graphic novel. The 436-page hardcover edition will have a cover price of $39.99 and will be released in October, the same month that Titan Books will be publishing Watching the Watchmen, Dave Gibbons’ account of the creation of what is likely at this point, the most popular graphic novel of all time. The new hardcover edition will provide a deluxe presentation of the graphic novel classic at a lower price point than the $75, 464-page Absolute Edition.

Watchmen graphic novel have been building steadily since the film was announced. Watchmen was the bestselling non-manga graphic novel in American bookstores during the month of March  and sales should continue to grow as the premiere of the Watchmen movie gets closer.

Original Monster Society of Evil To Be Reprinted

March 25, 2008
By

…and the cool news just keeps on coming: It’s being reported from the ComicsPro meeting in Las Vegas that the original CC Beck Shazam!: The Monster Society of Evil will be reprinted in 2009. As you may know, these classic stories have been collected before in a very expensive and limited quantity omnibus some years ago (1989; $135.00; America Nostalgia Library). This comes as both relief and shock. As I said when I featured Jeff Smith’s MSoE a few weeks ago, it’s about time that DC dust off the originals and get to work on reprinting some classic Golden Age works. Whether it be for an Omnibus, Showcase or a Absolute Edition, I don’t really care, I’ have been clamoring for a new edition ever since I got wind of the Shazam! Archives. Thanks to Koete for the info.
