CCL Podcast #142 - Planet Hulk HC

Collected Comics Library Podcast #142

I start off the cast with a rant on the whole Powers trade misspelling screw-up featuring C.B. Cebulski. There is also a bunch of news (most of which I blogged about) including the Hunger Dogs in the New Gods Omnibus 4, a few DC Comics solicits, X-Men Masterworks Volume 6 and From Hell, the UK Hardcover edition, from Top Shelf.

Today’s feature is a review of Hulk: Planet Hulk Hardcover. A very good book and to put it simply it is a story you have seen or read many times before. A man is thrown into exile, becomes slave/gladiator bands with a group of misfits like himself and defeats the enemy on his ground. Flash Gordon, Conan, and Kirk Douglas, Russell Crowe and countless others have played the part. I guess now it is the Hulks’ turn.

Lastly, as always, I go over the New Releases of the Week, and like last week there were a few surprises; JSA All-Stars Archives Volume 1, Jeff Smith’s Shazam The Monster Society of Evil Deluxe HC, Gunslinger Born, but no Nick Fury Masterworks - Damn It!!!

CCL Podcast #140 - Secrets of the Batcave

Filed under: Podcast, batman, blog, thor - 03 Oct 2007

Collected Comics Library Podcast #140

If you’re a regular listener to the Collected Comics Library, than you know it’s no secret that I am a big fan of Batman. Always have been. Always will be. Of all the comics and collected editions I own, Batman is what I own the most of. Reflecting back as to why, I’m really not that sure. As a character, he is much more liberal than I am, I think he’s a jerk to his “Bat Family” and he is much more introverted than anyone I know, fictional or otherwise. That being said, I’m proud to add one of Batman’s latest collected editions to my bookshelf, Batman: Secrets of the Batcave. This book showcases the cave in all of its various comic book forms from the 1940’s up through today. There is also more to this book than meets the eye. Come listen and find out the 33-year-old true inspiration for this trade and find out just where and how Batman obtained all his trophies and memorabilia.
I also go in a bit about my venture into the Around Comics podcast, John Mayo and my time in Chicago this past weekend.
Chris

PS One correction. The Mummy story takes place in Detective Comics #158, not Batman #12.
I had my notes mixed up. Sorry about that. I’ll make a quick retraction next week.
Batman #12 is about the bullet proof vest.

CCL Podcast #135 - Review: Iron Man Masterworks 1

Collected Comics Library Podcast #135

I’m back from vacation! I couldn’t believe the activity in my Inbox when I got back home. So much news and information, I thought the computer was going to explode. And what’s this about the rumors of the demise of the DC Archive program? I dive into that on the show and share some interesting information straight from the DC offices. And speaking of DC, looks like the Showcase line is a little rattled. I’m not too worried on that front, though. Looks like some things just needed fixing. I have complete faith in that program.

As far as other news: LXG: Black Dossier, Harbringer and Dan Dare (links are all in the posts below), I tell you all about them. I’ll try to cover some of DC and Marvel solicitations for November and December, respectively, next week, but I am curious as to the new What If? Annihilation book and what this may mean for an Annihilation Omnibus.

I have a new Question of the Month for September, which may or may not have anything to do with comic books and I tell you about two other podcasts making waves.

All-in-all it’s good to be back.
