One thing that has been bothering me as of late is the title to the upcoming X-Men Vs. Fantastic Four Classic Premiere HC (Variant Vol. 36). It collects Fantastic Four Vs. The X-Men #1-4 and Fantastic Four #28 – not X-Men Vs. Fantastic Four #1-4.
It’s obvious that X-Men outsell the FF these days and that’s helped by the fact that there are a gazillion more mutant books on the shelves. It looks as though the Marvel Collected Editions Department agrees. I’m guessing that they have changed the title to promote it to X-Men buyers rather than Fantastic Four buyers. You can plainly see the change compared to the original monthly book on the Variant Dustjacket. Hell, even the name X-Men is in a larger font!
If that’s the case, then I understand why the title change was made, but it doesn’t make it right.
Keep it the way it was originally intended to be, Marvel.
If nothing else, the change makes it all a bit more confusing.
When I saw the solicitation for the book, I thought something was off, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I am also a little surprised that they are giving this such a grand production. I don’t remember this miniseries as being something very important to the overall FF or X-mythos. I thought it was a nice read but I have to wonder who the target audience is for something like this.
Maybe Marvel just hasn’t decided on a color yet for the Fantastic Four MPC’s yet, seeing as how we’ve had something like 35 volumes solicited and no FF volumes yet. I’m guessing the X-Men titles massively outsell all of the others though, since we’ve had far more X-Men MPC’s than any other. (Seven published and solicited. Wolverine and Spider-Man are tied with second at four.) They must even outsell the Wolverine MPC’s since two of the X-Men books have Wolverine in the title (Wolverine & Kitty Pryde, Wolverine/Gambit) and could easily have been done up in the Wolverine dress. I was surprised that they weren’t actually.

Sorry, the X-Men MPC’s have NINE total books (published and solicited). I forgot to count the X-Men Vs FF and Avengers books.
