Absolute Green Lantern: Rebirth and Collected Edition Blog browsing on Friday afternoon

So much of comic book news is that of the monthly format of the medium. So when a run of comics gets collected it’s usually no big deal like a simple trade paperback or hardcover. We expect those to come out about every six months or so, but when we get wind of an Absolute, Omnibus or oversized Library edition, it’s something very special and we here at the CCL tend to celebrate.
That said, get ready for the Absolute Green Lantern: Rebirth. Nothing is officially confirmed by DC, but I have it on good authority that it will be forthcoming. My guess is that it will probably collect the first two Geoff Johns story arcs: Green Lantern Rebirth and Green Lantern (2005 Series) #1-6 and also include Green Lantern Secret Files and Origins 2005. No word on when we’ll see it, hopefully underneath the Christmas tree. Now on to some links:

Oh man, Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern run is the one Absolute Edition I most wanted, and never thought I’d get. I figured, if anything, it’d get a Starman-esque Omnibus treatment. It’s probably way too much to ask, but I hope this gets split up in three volumes: Rebirth, Sinestro Corps War, and Blackest Night. But that’s probably asking for too many issues (20? 25?) in each one.

And I should say I just realized I must have some serious problems where I’m absolutely giddy to pay a ridiculous amount of money to own a story I already own in two other formats (the actual issues, and hardcovers)… Oh well. If my wife asks, just tell her it’s completely new material. Thanks.

    Luke,
I have not read the early Johns run, only Sinestro Corps War. I was going to go back and get the trades to catch up. the more I think about it, I feel mixed about this book. It’s the same way I felt about Hush or For Tomorrow in Absolute format, too. I just think it’s too soon to bring this to the oversized format because the trades are easy to find. But that could be the case with Sandman too (or any of the Alex Ross Absolutes). I guess I’ll have to mull it over some more.

    Chris,
If you liked the Sinestro Corps War, I’m sure you’ll like everything that came before it. Although I might be a bit biased since Rebirth was my introduction to comic books… and you never forget your first. I was really surprised by this news too, since Johns’ run isn’t even complete yet. But, I feel like Hush and For Tomorrow got the Absolute treatment just because of Jim Lee’s art (I haven’t read For Tomorrow, but the story in Hush wasn’t anything spectacular), whereas the art and story are both top notch for GL. I’d say get the Rebirth TPB and you should probably be able to make up your mind for sure after that.

I read the GL rebirth issues & waited for the trade for this & future volumes. A GL Absolute of this no way, try a GL/GA Absolute then we will talk.
