Comic Book Blog browsing on a Tuesday afternoon

Just catching up on a few links that I inadvertently passed over:

  • Marvel by way their Marvel Masterworks site have announced that Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD Vol. 1 has been delayed for 3-4 weeks (mostly likely due to a printing error). Have I mentioned recently how pissed I am with all the delays and errors that are occurring in collected editions lately? This is now coming across as an epidemic, by not just Marvel, but all companies. The people responsible should be held accountable to the fullest extent. If that means termination then so be it. Solicitations come out three months in advance and with a specific release date. Assurances must be met and quality standards must be in place to get these books out in accordance to the original given solicit date. If proper printing guidelines were followed and contingency and risk management systems were in place, the book could be published on time. Therefore, there would be no issues to deal with. This news was first posted on September 23 and since then no official press release or explanation has come forth on Marvel.com or news portals like Newsarama and Comic Book Resources. If the date cannot be met, then don’t try to sweep it under the rug on a single web page with some half-assed excuse and hope that it will go unnoticed. That is completely inexcusable especially for a high priced ticket item. I, and the readers of this blog and listeners of the podcast are aware of these practices and are fed up. Somewhere in the world Steranko is laughing.
  • The first The Hellboy Library Editions (handsomely bound to match The Art of Hellboy) has a tenitive release date of April, 2008 (let’s all hold our breath). It will collect Seed of Destruction and Wake The Devil. No price is given at this time, stay tuned. This information came to me by way of the Dark Horse e-mail newsletter Pony Express which you can sign up for.
  • Titan Books has acquired worldwide rights to produce a making-of book for the Frank Miller Spirit film.
  • Fantagraphics will release Palestine: The Special Edition, a 320-page 8″ x 11″ hardcover, on January 8th for $29.95.
  • TwoMorrows is offering select editions of Alter Ego, Back Issue, Draw!, Rough Stuff, Write Now, and Jack Kirby Collector in digital form.
  • Harper to Reprint Scott McCloud’s Zot!
