Supernova, Starman VIII and David Knight

With the release of my last show on Starman, it really got me thinking just who the new Starman of the JSA is. In doing my research it also led me to figure out just who Supernova is in 52. I believe my speculation to be right and accurate. Time will tell – no more then 18 weeks.

Supernova is David Knight, son of the original Starman, Ted Knight and brother of Jack Knight, Starman VII.
He is also the new Starman.

The clues are there.

If you know your Starman history you know that David always wanted to be a Superhero. He took up the mantle of Starman in issue #0 and was almost instantly assassinated. He was thrown back in time and took up the mantle of Starman of 1951. A persona that was originally Batman’s from Detective Comics #247 (hence the Batman angle), but was retconned in the Robinson series. Now it appears that he has taken up a costume that Superman once wore in the Silver Age (World’s Finest #178).

Ralph does know David well because both have lived in Opal City. Also Ralph, having been among the Starmen, knows what the Starmen powers are.

Supernova’s, themselves, happen in outerspace, hence “star”.

Supernova’s costume insignia is the same as that of Metropolis’s fictional TV station Galaxy Broadcasting System. Again, “star”.

Now while I’m at it. The new Starman in the JSA is not Thom Kallor/Danny Blaine/Star Boy. In the last issue of Starman #80, Thom said that one more person would become Starman before he would take over the role. Also in that issue Jack said he had picked who it would be. Although David did get his shot at being a “Starman” it didn’t last. David has now come back to become a hero - again. We also know that Jack has yet to make an appearance in 52. Waid said Jack would make an appearance, and no I’m not talking about that very brief image of him talking to Courtney in one of the early issues.

I think Jack is going to find out about Supernova/David and confront him about being the new Starman in the JSA. David not sure of his exact role and is thoroughly confused and that’s why he is in the mental institution. David’s been killed, reincarnated in 1951, a ghost and now somehow reincarnated again (probably by the ramifications of Infinite Crisis). Hell, if this happened to me I’d be seeing a shrink, too.

At one point I thought Supernova was Hawkman or even Black Condor. I never thought it was Conner.
